Summary
Under the direction of the COO, the Director of Inventory and Procurement is responsible for ensuring the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the purchasing process within the organization. This involves setting purchasing policies, managing purchasing budgets, and overall management of the purchasing process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Setting and facilitating the overall purchasing strategy of the organization.
- Work with both internal and external stakeholders regarding purchasing.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure the procurement process runs smoothly and improve it where necessary.
- Develop and communicate a procurement business plan for the organization.
- Manage / coordinate the sales and operations planning process including supply / demand forecasting, inventory management, and on time delivery.
- Negotiate contracts and service agreements with suppliers.
- Assess vendor capabilities, develop alternate sources and evaluate vendor performance.
- Establish department practices and procedures.
- Ensure that purchasing documents are properly completed.
- Analyze market; recommend major purchases of materials based on anticipated changes in prices or unusual availability situations.
- Prepare status reports as needed.
- Communicate with other departments regarding product developments and the availability of materials and supplies.
- Keep abreast of changes in the market, new product developments or processes.
- Seek cost reduction activities for all purchases.
- Plan, develop, organize, direct, manage and evaluate the personnel, operations and budget of the organization’s supply chain.
- Lead and manage purchasing, inventory control, forecasting, transportation, production scheduling and other areas required.
- Develop analytics, systems and data management capabilities, including metrics and reports.
- Direct the hiring, training, supervision, mentoring, and performance evaluations of supply chain staff, including purchasing, inventory and scheduling personnel.
- Direct, coordinate, assign, monitor and review the work of individuals engaged in supply chain related duties.
- Understand customers’ needs, service those needs, and maintain and develop positive business relationships with a customer’s key personnel involved in or directly relevant to supply chain activities.
- Manage vendor relationships. (e.g., third party logistics)
- Collaborate with staff, other departments, senior management, and decision makers to share information, problem solve, and to clarify management objectives.
- Oversee organization-wide management of the strategic sourcing, procurement, contracting, and evaluation of services
- Develop annual plans with prioritization and resourcing
- Develop and / or participate in the development of the supply chain strategy for the organization
- Manage and / or execute procurement related functions (e.g., develop and implement contract management and procurement frameworks, sourcing strategies, negotiate agreements, draft and manage contracts, etc.)
- Implement and adhere to transaction management best practices.
- Monitor and analyze current trends in the marketplace
- Direct and manage corporate and regulatory compliance
- Identify and manage risk within the supply chain
- Address tactical and strategic supply chain issues
- Stay informed of advances in supply chain technology and approaches, and apply within the organization to improve supply chain process
- Establish key performance indicators, monitor ongoing performance, and improve performance against set goals
- Develop and implement new systems, best practices, inventory control, demand planning, and other optimizations in order to grow the business
- Perform other responsibilities as required or requested.
Job skills Requirements:
- Broad knowledge of purchasing function concepts and of supplier processes & practices.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills for report writing, presentations and interactions with diverse groups of people inside/outside of the corporation.
- Demonstrated broad knowledge and technical expertise in supply chain management.
- Demonstrate proficiency with PC software (WP, spreadsheets) and technology
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related fields or equivalent experience.
- Advanced Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in area of specialty or industry.
